Improper installation causes an estimated 27 percent of all bearing failures, making it one of the leading causes of unplanned downtime and lost productivity for many end users. Many users will over-tighten a bearing, thinking the harder they torque a bearing onto the shaft, the better the performance. To avoid setting and adjustment errors when installing a bearing, you can use feeler gauges to judge proper installation based on internal clearances.
